Silicon nitride ceramics are extremely wear-resistant because of their superb hardness and self-wetting properties. In addition, silicon nitride ceramics do not react with other inorganic acids except hydrofluoric acid, making it highly resistant to corrosion. Moreover, it has excellent resistance to thermal shock and will not rupture when heated to 1000°C in air and then rapidly cooled.
