What is silicon nitride ceramic (Si3N4)?
Silicon Nitride (Si3N4) is a high melting point ceramic material that is extremely hard and chemically inert. Moreover, silicon nitride ceramics have a low coefficient of thermal expansion, high thermal conductivity and excellent thermal shock resistance. Therefore, it is often utilized to manufacture mechanical components such as bearings, gas turbine blades, mechanical sealing rings, and permanent molds.

The chemical formula for silicon nitride is Si3N4.Molecular weight is 140.28, dissolved at 1900°C under pressure, and the color is usually gray or gray-black after high temperature sintering.
Hardness of silicon nitride ceramics:
Silicon nitride ceramics have a Mohs hardness of 9 to 9.5 and a Vickers hardness of about 1550, making them one of the hardest substances in the world.

Precautions for using silicon nitride ceramics
At not too high a temperature, silicon nitride has high strength and impact resistance, but above 1200 ℃ will be broken with the growth of the use of time, so that its strength is reduced, more likely to fatigue damage above 1450 ℃, so the use of silicon nitride is generally not more than 1300 ℃ temperature.
