What is Gas Pressure Sintered Silicon Nitride Ceramics (GPSN)?
Pneumatic sintering of silicon nitride ceramics is the most commonly used method to produce high-strength and complex geometry of silicon nitride structural parts. Therefore, usually we say the silicon nitride ceramics, in the absence of notes are defaulted to pneumatic silicon nitride ceramics, its full English name isGas Pressure Sintered Silicon Nitride, abbreviated GPSN.
Pneumatic sintering methods typically use silicon nitride powders that have been thoroughly mixed with sintering aids to promote liquid-phase sintering (typically yttrium oxide, magnesium oxide and/or alumina), as well as mixing in some of the binder to improve the mechanical strength of the raw ceramic body. The silicon nitride powder is pressed into the desired shape, followed by raw billet processing, and finally the pressed and formed raw billet is placed into a nitrogen-filled sintering furnace and molded by high-temperature sintering.
Characteristics of Pneumatically Sintered Silicon Nitride Ceramics
Silicon nitride has the most versatile combination of mechanical, thermal and electrical properties of any advanced ceramic material. It is a high-performance advanced ceramic that is very hard and has excellent resistance to thermal shock and high temperatures. In addition, its low thermal conductivity and high wear resistance make it an excellent material capable of withstanding the harshest conditions in the most demanding industrial applications. Silicon nitride ceramics are an excellent choice when high temperature resistance and high load capacity are required.
