Characteristics of pyrolytic boron nitride ceramics
Pyrolytic boron nitride (PBN) belongs to the hexagonal crystal system, the purity can reach 99.999%, acid and alkali resistance, oxidation resistance, good thermal conductivity, dense, and processable. It is made by chemical vapor deposition (CVD) of ammonia and boron halide under high temperature and high vacuum conditions, which can be used to prepare PBN plates as well as crucibles, boats, coatings and other PBN final products.
Pyrolytic boron nitride is different from ordinary hot pressed boron nitride (HBN) in that it does not have to go through the traditional hot pressed sintering process and does not add any sintering agent, so the products obtained have the following significant features:
1. Non-toxic and odorless;
2、High purity, reaching 99.999% or above;
3, room temperature and acid, alkali, salt and organic reagents do not react, in the molten salt, lye slightly corrosive, but can resist high temperature corrosion of various acids;
4. Non-reactive with most molten metals, semiconductors and their compounds;
5、Below 1000℃, good oxidation resistance;
6, good thermal shock resistance, 2000 ℃ into the water did not see cracks;
7, high use temperature, no sublimation point, in 3000 ℃ above the direct decomposition of B and N;
8, high resistance, good electrical insulation performance;
9, smooth surface, no air holes, and most semiconductor melt is not wet.
Applications of Pyrolytic Boron Nitride
Due to the nature of the CVD process, pyrolytic boron nitride parts typically require wall thicknesses of no more than 3 mm. However, the CVD process gives pyrolytic boron nitride a near-perfect layered structure, which results in an anisotropic thermal conductivity, making it an ideal material for crystal growth crucibles.
